Children influence decision making
"I like painting, drama and playing the guitar. I get a lot of energy from these things. You could definitely say that I need this program." - Aida
Performing 4 Peace is a programme method developed by War Child. Children write theatre plays based on their personal experiences, which they then perform in front of their community and decision makers. The plays are used to influence local government officials and institutions working for children, and to stimulate discussion on sensitive issues in their communities.
Through Performing 4 Peace children manage to start a dialogue, speak out about their problems and aspirations, and influence decision makers. Using their negative experiences in a positive way to bring about change is a very empowering experience. In 2012 Performing for Peace ran in Sierra Leone, Colombia and Lebanon.
